Matthew 25:21(KJV)- “His Lord said unto him, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter…”

We serve God by serving others. Our greatness is measured in terms of our service and not our status.  This is contrary to the world’s belief that everyone wants to lead and not serve. We cannot be all generals with no soldiers to lead. Even in ministry, Christians should be “servant-leaders.” To effectively serve in ministry, we must have a mindset of shifting our mentally while changing our attitudes. We must focus on the needs of others not just on ourselves. We can’t serve in ministry being full of ourselves and only offering self-service. 

Many leaders in ministry start off as servants but often end up becoming celebrities in the limelight. They are serving only to either get others to like and admire them, or to achieve personal gain. This is not real ministry, but “hidden agendas!” 

When a leader use their services as a bargaining tool for their own purpose instead of God’s agenda, it is only beneficial to them. Real servants are faithful no matter how small the task. Great opportunities often come by doing even small tasks. Through these tasks, God is testing your faithfulness. Abraham, Moses, Samuel, David, Daniel, Timothy and Paul were all faithful servants of God. The closer you are to Christ, the less you’ll need to promote yourself.

When was the last time you “emptied” yourself for the sake of others? Jesus did! He was a servant first above anything else.
