Health and Wellness

September is Cholesterol Education Month.  Cholesterol is a waxy, fat like substance found in the body and many foods.  The body needs cholesterol to function normally and makes all you need.  Too much cholesterol can build up in the arteries, narrow them and putting individuals at risk for heart disease and stroke.

September is also National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Gynecology Cancer Awareness Month, and Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.  Please remember to get regular physical examinations.  Encourage loved ones to follow suit.  God commands his people to be good stewards over everything and that includes our temples, bodies.

Other

September is also Library Card Sign-up Month.  This month many of the Enoch Pratt Libraries are offering prizes and giveaways to people who visit the information desk and display their library cards.

Lastly, September is National Coupon Month.  Couponing allows people to open or increase their savings account.  Below are a few tips:

  • Coupons are available online, in magazines, newspapers, and on grocer’s shelves.
  • Check the packages of purchases for coupons
  • Write or email the manufacturers, as they love feedback; they will send coupons for discounted or free items as a “Thank You.”
