August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Please know that immunizations are not just for school age children. On August 8, 2015, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is hosting a back to school bash from noon until 3p.m. at the War Memorial Plaza. There will be giveaways, musicians, special guests, and free school supplies.
August 9-15 is Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week. Qualifying apparel and footwear priced at $100 or less are exempt from the MD state sales tax. Unfortunately, accessories are not included.
As children prepare to go back-to-school, we encourage parents to discuss safety and security. Some possible topics may include bullying, peer pressure, drugs, etc.
On August 17, the Coldstream Park Elementary School located at 1400 Exeter Hall Avenue is hosting a back-to-school event. Children will receive free school supplies while they last. There will be activities, games, food, fun, and local specialty vendors.
On August 29 from noon to 4p.m., there will be a back-to-school festival at Security Square Mall. There will be free school supplies, children’s activities, community resources, free food distribution and live entertainment. County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and Superintendent Dallas Dance are the special hosts.

The Observatory located on the roof of the Science Center offers FREE stargazing every Friday from 7 p.m. until 1030p.m. and discounted admission to the Science Center on Fridays after 5p.m.
