To be totally transparent, it was my intent to go in a completely different direction with this week’s blog post. In my quiet time prior to writing, the Lord did a divine takeover and shifted me in a new direction. As a mature daughter of Christ, I’m going with His shift because I know it indicates it’s a double edged sword penetrating YOU as the reader and myself as the writer.
Trusting God is easy when prayers are answered quickly. You ask God, He answers right away and you don’t have to spend time in the battle you asked Him to free you from. Trusting God is manageable even if He doesn’t answer immediately, when the weight of what you’re carrying is shared by others or on the light side- significant enough to garner your attention but doesn’t bring too much interruption. But real trust—the kind that stretches and shapes us—is formed in the moments when nothing is clear, timelines feel delayed almost indefinitely, and it appears God is MUTE.
Sadly many, regardless of spiritual acumen or “church” tenure, have not developed the sauce, if you will, to trust God. We “trust” in lip service and appearance ONLY because we’re too afraid to relinquish the small grip we have. But truly trusting God is not pretending everything is fine. It’s not masking in fear of judgement. It’s deciding to choose faith, even when you can’t see the roadmap to the end.
Trusting God is a decision, not a feeling. If we’re honest, when we experience the fires of life, we don’t “feel” like trusting God. One of the biggest misconceptions about trusting God is that it’s rooted in emotion. Feelings, as most would agree, can be superficial and greatly unpredictable. Some days we “feel” confident and full of faith; other days we “feel” uncertain, afraid, insecure or exhausted. Hence, why trust isn’t about how you feel—it’s about who you believe.
Proverbs 3:5 tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” That verse doesn’t deny that we’ll try to understand. It simply reminds us that our understanding has limits, but God’s wisdom is infinite. Trust begins when we release the need to figure everything out and choose to believe that God already has.
Trusting God requires us to surrender completely— letting go of the desire to manipulate timelines, expectations, and outcomes. For many of us, that’s the hardest part, not being in control. So, we trust Him partially. Yet Scripture repeatedly shows us that God does some of His best work in seasons of uncertainty when we’re forced to let Him take over—the wilderness seasons, waiting seasons, hidden seasons. These are not signs of abandonment; they are often places of preparation. Unfortunately, some give up during these seasons instead of developing trust and forging forward to victory.
Trusting God develops when we’re forced to WAIT because waiting has a way of exposing what we truly trust. When answers don’t come quickly, we’re tempted to rush the process, settle, or take matters into our own hands. But waiting teaches us dependence. It reminds us that God is our source, not our circumstances.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.” Waiting doesn’t weaken you—it renews, refreshes, and replenishes you when it’s anchored in trust. Oftentimes, God doesn’t change the situation right away because He’s strengthening the faith required to sustain the blessing that’s on the other side.
Trusting God also means trusting Him with outcomes we wouldn’t choose ourselves. WOAH-that’s a HUGE one… Outcomes we would not choose for ourselves. It means believing that even if the result looks different than expected, God is still good, still faithful, and trustworthy. This doesn’t mean the disappointment won’t hurt, because it undoubtedly will. It means disappointment doesn’t get the final word because again, our faith is anchored in trust.
Romans 8:28 reminds us that “all things work together for the good of those who love God.” Not all things are good—some literally suck, but God can work good through all things.
Trusting God isn’t a one-time declaration; it’s a daily posture that requires consistent cultivation and elevation in our relationship with Christ. Yes, trusting God is clear cut; either you do or don’t. However, even those who do, must work diligently to maintain and develop it, as trusting God to cure a hangnail may not be the same as trusting Him to restore your life after a house fire. It’s best to “build your most holy faith,” (Jude 1:20) daily to ensure that, as trials arise, your trust is in-tact. Daily suggestions to accomplish this includes:
If you’re in a season where trusting God feels hard, you’re not failing—you’re growing. Show yourself GRACE. Faith that has never been tested has never been proven. God sees what you cannot. Trust Him, because His will, although sometimes painful and complex, is STILL good, STILL acceptable, and perfect. Trust Him!
🔥🔥🔥💯 - I believe we've all experienced those "Life is Life-ing" moments. They're the times when we have to trust God through the process of waiting. Thanks for sharing what God has given you to you with us. 💕💕
